THE FOLLOWING CASE STUDY WAS SHOWCASED IN
THE FALL 2004 QUARTERLY BDO NEWSLETTER
Project |
 |
A look at one of the projects that Datamatics
worked on with other approved members within
the BDO Seidman Audit and Technology Alliance shows what great
service the firm delivers. The Bay Area Consulting Group (BACG),
a fellow member of the BDO Seidman Business and Technology
Alliance, was engaged by the Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort
and Casino in New Mexico to conduct a rapid assessment of its
IT function. BACG was charged by the Indian tribe that owned
the property with coming up with recommendations to improve
the effectiveness of the Inn's IT system in supporting the
gaming facility's opening and operation.
Task |
 |
The project involved evaluating a recently purchased AS/400 system and assisting
in moving it into production. Because this part of the engagement required deep
AS/400 expertise, BACG called on Datamatics for assistance. Datamatics Consultants Inc. quickly
identified an AS/400 specialist from its pool of consultants who was available
to travel to the remote site in a few days.
Method |
 |
The competence demonstrated by the Datamatics Consultants Inc. consultant enabled him to establish
immediate credibility with the client, who was so impressed by his service that
he asked the consultant to remain beyond his original commitment to participate
in the final client briefing. During it, the client asked him to extend his involvement
for another two months to provide interim AS/400 support, develop appropriate
policies and procedures for its operation, and train two of the client's IT staff
members to take over ongoing support responsibilities. Datamatics Consultants Inc. continues to
work with the client to keep implementation on schedule and optimize the system.

It would be hard to overstate the value delivered by the Datamatics Consultants Inc. consultant,” says
Bob Abrams, BACG Principal. “Within hours of his arrival, he resolved a
license key problem that had persisted for weeks. By the end of the day, he completed
the basic setup of the AS/400. And on Monday morning, he opened negotiations
with the VAR to improve the configuration provided and reduce the price that
had been paid. He also assisted in completing installation of the accounting
application, which was scheduled for live operation in 15 days. His contribution
to the success of this project was highly significant. |
